Get your groove back in no time!

I was feeling pretty under the weather recently with a cough and flu-like symptoms. Like everyone else in the world, I despise getting sick, but I do honour the process because it means that my body is detoxing naturally.

I looked through my cupboard to see what natural elixir I could whip up. I had just purchased a new bag of organic turmeric and that jumped out at me. Fresh turmeric would be ideal, but I wasn’t leaving the house in -35 weather we were experiencing, so this would just have to do!

Turmeric milk has been around FOREVER and there are many versions of this recipe out there. Hopefully you are familiar with it, but if you are not, you have to try this recipe!

The main ingredient for golden mylk is turmeric which gives this special drink it’s brilliant golden hue!  Feel free to be creative and substitute for various milk alternatives or add other spices or superfoods/ super herbs to make it your own!

 

You will need:

2 cups coconut or almond milk

1 tbsp freshly grated turmeric powder (or use dried powder, if you don’t have fresh)

½ tbsp freshly grated ginger (or use dried powder)

¼ tsp freshly ground black peppercorns

¼ tsp cinnamon powder

raw local honey (sweeten to taste)

 

*optional

1 tsp ashwaghanda powder (for extra immune boost)

1 tsp of maca powder (for extra libido, hormone balancing and stress-reducing boost)

 

Directions:

Gently warm the coconut or almond milk on the stove, then add in the turmeric, ginger, black peppercorns, & cinnamon.  Add in optional ingredients if you wish. Pour into your favourite mug and enjoy!

*Use organic and local whenever possible.

**Local honey can help to reduce allergies and build immunity, so always choose local honey whenever possible

Faster Recovery from Illness:

I enjoyed many cups of it fresh, and then what was left over, I put in a mason jar to stay fresh and cool in the fridge, ready to go anytime! Whenever I made myself a cup of hot tea after that, I’d pour in half of the hot tea, and half of the concentrated golden milk. It was a great way to save time and stretch out the benefits of the golden milk without having to make it every time. After 2 days I was bouncing back and finally getting my groove back. Yeah! 

I felt less achy and my head cleared up. It was amazing how much it helped me!
